Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the latest iteration of its CLA-Class, a model that seamlessly blends luxury, performance, and cutting-edge technology. Scheduled to launch in India by late 2025, the new CLA is poised to set new benchmarks in the luxury sedan segment.
The new CLA retains its signature sleek and aerodynamic silhouette, characterized by smooth lines and a sporty stance. The front fascia features a prominent grille adorned with the iconic Mercedes-Benz star, flanked by sharp LED headlights that enhance its aggressive look. The elongated hood and sloping roofline contribute to its coupe-like appearance, while the sculpted sides and 19-inch alloy wheels add to its dynamic presence. Unmatched Efficiency: The CLA EV’s Powertrain and Performance

The more powerful CLA 350 4Matic, featuring an all-wheel-drive system, offers a range of 770 km.
A major highlight of the CLA EV is its energy-efficient 85kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery, which enables an outstanding efficiency rating of over 9.0 km/kWh. The rear-mounted permanent magnet motor plays a crucial role in enhancing power output, reducing weight, and improving torque density. The CLA 250+ accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 6.7 seconds, while the CLA 350 4Matic, which adds a front-axle motor, achieves the same in just 4.9 seconds.
Mercedes has also introduced advanced energy management features, such as regenerative braking that can provide up to 200kW of stopping power. The front motor in the CLA 350 4Matic decouples when not needed, reducing friction losses by 90%.
Fast-Charging Capabilities and Advanced Architecture
One of the most striking features of the CLA EV is its 800V electrical architecture, allowing ultra-fast charging at up to 320kW. This enables a 300 km range boost in just 10 minutes. Alongside the 85kWh battery, a smaller 58kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery will also be offered.
Hybrid Variant: Balancing Power and Efficiency
For those seeking a hybrid alternative, Mercedes offers the CLA with a 1.5L four-cylinder petrol engine combined with a 27hp electric motor. This hybrid setup is available in three power outputs—136hp, 163hp, and a 191hp all-wheel-drive 4Matic variant. Mercedes claims diesel-like fuel efficiency, ensuring a cost-effective yet powerful driving experience. Interestingly, the hybrid CLA is expected to be priced at par with the EV model, signaling the brand’s push for pricing parity between electric and combustion-powered models.
Cutting-Edge Interior with AI-Powered Infotainment
Inside, the CLA is equipped with Mercedes’ latest Superscreen layout, featuring three digital displays: a 10.25-inch driver’s display, a 14.6-inch infotainment screen, and an optional 14-inch passenger screen. The latest MB.OS operating system enhances the infotainment experience with AI-powered virtual assistants, including ChatGPT and Google Gemini, along with support for streaming services like Netflix.
The CLA offers 405L of boot space and, in a first for a modern Mercedes, an additional 101L frunk storage in the EV model.
Aerodynamic Excellence and Bold Design
Mercedes has meticulously designed the CLA to maximize aerodynamics, achieving an impressive drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.21, just shy of the EQS sedan’s 0.20 Cd. The CLA is larger than its predecessor yet maintains a sleek profile with features such as inboard-set wheels, strategically placed air vents, and flush-faced alloy wheels.
A major design change is the unification of the EV and hybrid models’ aesthetics. The CLA embraces Mercedes’ signature three-pointed star motif, integrating it into the headlights, brake lights, and even a backlit grille featuring 142 illuminated stars on the EV model. The hybrid version, however, retains a traditional open grille for engine cooling.
Launch Timeline and India Arrival
The CLA is set to debut in Europe in October 2024, with the hybrid following shortly after. An estate version of the CLA will also be introduced at the Munich Motor Show in September 2024. India is expected to receive the CLA sedan by the end of 2025, making it one of the most anticipated luxury car launches in the country.
